Governor Carney announced on Friday that "Phase One" reopening would begin on June 1st and permit gyms and health clubs to reopen. With the announcement, he released a number of industry-specific guidelines (which can be found here: https://governor.delaware.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/24/2020/05/Delaware-Economic-Reopening-Guidance_Phase.pdf - under "Consumer Services", "Exercise Facilities"). We are currently reviewing the guidelines and evaluating when and how we will reopen the club. We will have more information out by the end of the week.

We hope you and your families are doing well during these trying times.
Over the past week there have been several inquiries about our plans regarding future billing, the March credit, and membership freezes. First, we will not bill members for any time that HAC is closed.
Unless the club reopens before April 10th, no account will be billed on April 10th for dues or services.
As soon as we receive word of a future reopening date, we will inform our members that we are reopening and when they can expect their first dues invoice.
For the time that HAC is closed, all memberships billed will receive a credit beginning with the first billing date following our reopening.
Last, since we have ceased operations and have limited staff, no further billing changes or freezes will be processed until we reopen. If, after we reopen, you wish to freeze please send in your request at that time.

Week one is nearly down, and all it’s brought is more uncertainty. While we closed voluntarily for two weeks effective Monday, March 16th, by Wednesday, Governor Carney announced it was no longer optional. In fact, he’s mandated that all gyms, among other establishments, remain closed for the duration of the State of Emergency.
There’s no word or indication on just how long that might be. As of this writing (and boy we know that could change at any moment!) the kids of Delaware are slated to return to school on Monday, March 30th. Though it’s rumored that will be extended, we can only go by what’s been officially released.
In the meantime, we’ve sanitized the entire club and started working on a childcare makeover. Huge shout out to our amazing staff that worked so hard to make that happen. You can find a few photos on our social media:
As a reminder, you will not be billed for any time the club is closed. We miss you all dearly and are very much looking forward to when it is safe for us all to be together at the club again.

We thank you for your patience as we assess the current health situation in our region. In response to the growing COVID-19 presence and with the goal of ensuring health for our community, Hockessin Athletic Club has made the difficult decision to temporarily close, effective tonight, Monday, March 16th at 6:00 pm. We anticipate this closure will last through Sunday, March 29th with a hopeful re-open date of Monday, March 30th at our usual 5:00 am.
Even though we passionately believe that exercise and good nutrition offer the best protection against this virus and a great many illnesses, both chronic and acute, we are taking this measure as we believe it is the socially responsible thing to do. We did not make this decision lightly and recognize the inconvenience it will cause our valued members and program participants. However, our overarching concern is the health of our community.
Hockessin Athletic Club will continue to monitor the situation and follow the recommendations of city, state, and federal health professionals with the hope of reopening as soon as possible. Rest assured, you will not be billed for any time that the club is closed.
We understand that you will have many questions. Please know, our first priority will be to ensure our employees are taken care of. We will respond to your questions as soon as possible.
Please be well, take all precautions for yourself and your families and know that we are here for you no matter what the situation. The Hockessin Athletic Club community is strong and we will remain vigilant together.
Thank you, as always, for your business.

Wow, it's been a fast couple of days with all of the announcements and updates regarding our situation here in the first state!
We are still observing no YES Program classes, no Childcare, and no preschool this week, through Saturday, March 21st.
We will continue to monitor the situation as it changes and make a decision on further cancellations of programs and services or extending this closure later this week.
Additionally, we are implementing a "social distancing" measure in our regular group fitness classes, limiting class size to make sure there is ample room to have the recommended six feet of space in all directions.
In order to keep 36 square feet of personal space per participant, class sizes are limited to:
40 people in Studio One
20 people in the Cycle Studio
24 people in Studio Two
Additionally, our paid classes are reducing class sizes further, on a class by class basis. FIT classes with Dina Saitis will be reduced to a size of 6 and will include additional safety measures, such as no sharing weights during class and ample, instructed wipe downs of equipment. You can learn more about FIT classes here: https://www.hachealthclub.com/smallgroup-fit
Hot Yoga classes will be reduced to a maximum class size of 18 per studio. You can learn more about Hot Yoga classes here: https://www.hachealthclub.com/hotyoga

We are committed to providing the cleanest and safest environment we can for our members. We also believe our members can make decisions about their personal safety and the safety of their families. Until we are directed to close by a governing authority, we will remain open.

Thank you for being a part of the Hockessin Athletic Club community. As you know, the Coronavirus is becoming a more prominent health concern throughout the United States and Delaware.
The Hockessin Athletic Club takes the health and safety of our members and staff very seriously. Which is why we are closely monitoring the situation and following the CDC recommendations.
What are you doing to prevent the spread of the virus?
We have instructed our front desk staff to no longer handle member key-tags, they will be greeting you with the scanner instead. While we do know that this is a slight change to our traditional level of service, we feel as though the precaution is important for members and staff.
As always, HAC takes great pride in maintaining a clean, safe environment for all HAC members and staff and we plan to continue doing so. We have a housekeeping team that works diligently each day from 7:00 am to 4:30 am the following morning six days per week and 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, on Saturdays. We use hospital-grade cleaners across the club, and in addition to their normal routine, we have increased the number of staff during each shift specifically tasked with spending extra attention to disinfecting surface areas that receive the greatest volume of contact such as but not limited to fitness equipment, handrails, counters, chairs, doorknobs, and faucets.
We have also invested in installing additional air purifying systems throughout the club. We currently have these units already in spaces such as the locker rooms, yoga studios, childcare, and preschool, and effective today have them in more spaces include the group fitness studios. For more information on the technology, please click here: http://www.beyondbyaerus.com/globalassets/sellsheets/BBA_AP3000II.pdf
Help yourself stay healthy by using provided cleaning products and washing hands regularly. While we believe that gym days are the best days – we continue to encourage you to take the day off and stay home if you’re having symptoms of any illness.
Will the club close?
The club will only close due to a government-mandated state of emergency that forces us to close for any given amount of time.
Was/is the UD professor a member of the club?
As of this writing, we have not been notified of any reason we should be concerned that we've had a case at the club. If we are notified of a presumed positive case of either a member or employee, the membership base will be notified via e-mail. Our goal is to continue to remain transparent in our communication and efforts.
