About Willie

My point of view (POV) has almost 45 years of tweaking and adjusting and trying and failing and starting over. It’s been through so many trends and fads and differing POV's that it’s confusing and challenging to know what to trust or what to do or what works best even. And that is taking into account all the books, experts, TV shows, videos, podcast etc., and new to the flood of opportunity is the almighty, all-powerful phone apps, about what is right, what is good, what works and what doesn’t. I hope this doesn’t come as a shock to you, but my "Personal" POV is that it all works. Everything works. All of it. Every single bit of everything you’ve ever read or even tried, works. There is no magic. I believe in Santa, but not the magic ‘fix-all’ pill people are still looking for.

So how did I get here? When did the light switch flip on? Where did I bump my head and lose my mind to believe that I loved being uncomfortable? And just what has sustained my so-called love of sweating through all the aches and pains and bruises, life changes, challenges and years? Well first remember that I’m old enough to remember life before smart phones and when the only mud runs to be found were at military boot camps. What’s been the one thing that keeps me moving? There’s your answer. Moving. Movement. The art of using the body we have to do what we like and need to do. And, even the often times, stuff we don’t like to do.

I can’t say it enough, you have to move. And shocker! If you haven’t heard this, you are going to have to get comfortable being a little uncomfortable. That is a fact. Like weights are heavy, fact! Like you need air to breathe, fact! To a varying degree, of some level, you are going to have to find your own personal comfort zone in being in an uncomfortable situation. But the kicker is, this only applies if you want to see change.

Maintaining is easy, sitting down is easy, staying the same or getting worse all easy. But digging in, bearing down, bucking up, sticking to a diet, overcoming injury, battling personal demons, and setbacks, all of it requires that you move. In some way. The sedentary lifestyle is so 1950’s and borderline obsolete. Not moving is detrimental to your overall health and well-being. I think 4 out of 5 doctors would agree with me, and maybe the folks at Elite. (Just a little shout out!) The ad campaign “sitting is the new cigarette” didn’t scare enough people, so they dug into the research a little deeper and found that ‘moving’ can help with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disorders, as well as helping our no longer sitting down/shut-in elder population maintain a better quality of life and right on down to our better bendable super hyperactive bio-engineered children! We are seeing the growth of phenomenal opportunities to move all over the country. Look around and there are fitness franchises on almost every corner and in every shopping center. Our sons and daughters, moms and dads are benefitting from all this new “tech”, so there must be something to this moving thing. I like it.

The last and most important part of my PPOV, is my favorite word. Courage. My license plate says SWEAT, but Courage is hands down the word of the day, week, month, year, lifetime. Because without it, nothing works. So there I go contradicting myself, in the beginning, I said everything works, and now I’m telling you without courage, nothing works. But again, let’s get back to facts. You have to have the courage to want to change something you’re not happy with. Whatever that may be. To start, to keep going, to persevere, to show up, and more importantly to push and find your comfort zone in an uncomfortable situation. IF YOU WANT TO CHANGE!! This is your life, your fitness, your individual personal journey. I’m here to help you. I won’t count for you or tell you what to eat. But I will bust my ass for your health and well-being! My personal mantra is “Be the water, not the rock” but that’s mine, whatever yours is, you need to be accountable to the face staring back at you from the mirror. I can help, but you have to do the work.

Willie filled in while my instructor was on Xmas vacation, he not only made me feel totally comfortable and never skipped a beat on my training, but went above and beyond to help teach me how to deal with physical limitations I've been dealing with.
