A dance class designed for people living with Parkinson's disease and their caregivers.
There are no patients, only dancers.
Experience the joy and freedom that only a dancer class can offer.
Dancers train their minds and bodies to execute movement precisely and gracefully. In 2001, Olie Westheimer, Founder, and Director of the Brooklyn Parkinson's Group had the idea that dance could benefit individuals with PD.
In collaboration with Mark Morris Dance Group (MMDG), an internationally acclaimed dance company, Westheimer developed a dance class that uses the same principles that dancers employ to train their minds and bodies to move gracefully. The goal of these classes is to develop artistry and grace while addressing such PD-specific concerns as gait, balance, flexibility, and coordination.
Our classes are modeled after Westheimer's inspiring classes.
Dance as you are able to, whether from the stability of being seated in a chair, while standing with support, or moving across the floor.
Freedom & Stability
Allow your body to experience the freedom of dance while gaining strength and improving mobility.
Celebrate movement alongside other people living with PD and be inspired by each other.
Tuesdays, 1:00 pm - 2:15 pm
